Selection Criteria

Values work in a dynamic way through developing aspects as diverse as leadership focus, positive role modelling and community values.

Schools become a place where students experience positive values in context. They learn how to apply and talk about values appropriately. They become self-motivated, and their behaviour becomes calm and purposeful. Division in schools reduces, collaboration between students increases and values underpin a sense of unity and positive direction.

Our goal is to reach every deserving child. This is why we offer our learning programmes free of charge — to make them available to any child anywhere in the world, regardless of their age, means, or education level.

In the UK unfortunately, our centres can only accommodate a limited number of students if we are to give each child the individual attention and encouragement they deserve. To find the children most in need of our approach, we will use a number of measures that include children in the FSM programme, but it is essential that we also reach the hard working families who often get missed by the welfare system and most government poverty measures. If we have any remaining openings, we promise to work tirelessly — through community centres, care providers, faith groups, and local educators — to serve the hidden sector of children who fall through the cracks of government assistance programmes.

Of course, in order for a child to gain from StepUp, they must want to learn. To make sure we accept those who will benefit most from our work, we will meet with each applying child, with his parents or guardians, and evaluate whether or not they are willing to commit the time and effort necessary.

Children who will benefit from StepUp demonstrate:

  • the free will to participate and learn
  • dedication, determination and hunger to succeed
  • a track record of attendance and commitment at all times
  • responsibility and completion of work
  • guardians who support the right environment for learning
